This centimeter-scale resolution bathymetric image of the east face of the Faulty Towers and Twin Peaks Complexes was formed using a 675 kHz scanning sonar mounted on the ROV Jason I. It was compiled from 115 precisely navigated vertical and down-looking surveys using Jason under remote control. The corresponding digital still mosaic of Faulty Towers is shown in the image Photomosaic of Faulty Towers at Mothra.

Perspective view of the ultra-high resolution bathymetry (25 cm grid) at the Vai Lili vent field, located on the Valu Fa Ridge. Numerous cratered domes are evident in the southern extent of the survey area, and a distinct flow is evident emanating toward the N–NW from the southernmost cratered dome. Observed areas of hydrothermal activity (both focused and diffuse flow) are outlined with white boxes.

Bathymetry of the Tui Malila vent field (25 cm resolution) on the Valu Fa Ridge in the Lau Basin. Observed areas of hydrothermal activity (identified with white boxes) are located close to a NNE–SSW trending fault scarp with 10–15 m throw. Some areas of hydrothermal activity at Tui Malilsa are associated with volcanic domes. The bumpy texture in the southeastern extent of the survey area is due to the presence of pillow lavas.
